The present society is a globalized society;
advanced and modern technologies play important roles in communications
worldwide through the use of the Internet that is popular
among all ages from children, teenagers, middle-aged adults to the
elderly. No matter if the communication
is in the form of video conference, online lesson, updated and retrieved
academic data and information, entertainment, games, email, web board posting, or
chatting on various applications including Line, Facebook, Instagram, etc. The speed and convenience rendered by these
applications have made some Thai people so accustomed to specific language used
in online network communications that they cannot write or spell words
correctly; neither can they use the Thai language according to its levels or registers. However, the use of the specific online
language that is different from the standard Thai language is not unusual but
rather natural as Thai is a living language with ongoing evolution.
Nevertheless, language change can become language abuse if people cannot
distinguish change from misuse.
