The purpose of this article is to review the
development and structure of Thailand provincial administration since Sukhothai
period until present. The
summary is provincial administration from Sukhothai period to the early
Rattanakosin period was the rule of cities in the kingdom until King Chulalongkorn reform the provincial
administration using Tesapibal bureaucratic administrative system by establishing
Monthon which consist of city (later became provinces), district, sub-district, villages respectively,
all Monthon are under ministry of interior. After the Siamese revolution 1932
Monthon got dismissed and provincial administration only have provinces and district
,they even establish region but got canceled later. Currently Thailand
provincial administration are in accordance with Government Administration Act,
B.E. 2534 and Local Government Act, B.E. 2457. In conclusion current provincial
administration consist of provinces, district, sub-district and villages.
