Braille
is a writing system used among visually impaired people. During the period over
a half century before the writing system was invented, a writing tactile system
for the blind was introduced from time to time. These stages of development
will be explored in this article. As English Braille is based on the Roman
alphabets and widely used among the blind all over the globe, this article will
focus particularly on the Braille alphabets and symbols used in the English
language, as well as certain tools and equipment which make this writing system
applicable. We hope that the points discussed here will benefit both the
general public and the people who take special interests in the writing system.
